Meet Jason

Jason was born at Binghamton General Hospital on Veteran’s Day November 11th, 1976. He was raised in a small rural community just outside of Greene, NY and there he learned small town values like responsibility, hard work, and the importance of service to others.

 

He graduated from Broome Community College and Binghamton University. After graduation he married his high school sweetheart Amanda. They have three young and energetic boys, Nolan­ - 9, Miles­ - 7, and Ben­ - 4. 

Jason worked as an American History teacher and a guidance counselor for 15 years at Allynwod Academy, a school for at­risk youth. He also coached the Girls Varsity Softball team and taught several electives including current events and web design. Today he works as the Director of Public Communications for Family Planning of South Central, NY, a women’s focused healthcare organization with five health care centers in four counties. 

In 2006 Jason ran for office and was elected to the Broome County Legislature representing Downtown, parts of the First Ward, Northside, and Eastside of Binghamton and also parts of the Town of Dickinson. In his time as a County Legislator he has written and passed the following legislation: 

  • ●  Created Tax Exemption for Home Improvements 

  • ●  Required Energy Efficiency for New County Buildings 

  • ●  Increased Fines for Littering on County Property 

  • ●  Required County Construction Projects utilize local labor 

  • ●  Eliminated Sales Tax on Solar Panels purchased in Broome County 

  • ●  Created Energy Advisory Board to save taxpayers money 

  • ●  Banned Texting While Driving in Broome County 

  • ●  Required County Purchases to be denoted as Energy Star 

In addition he has proposed legislation to increase funding for more treatment programs for people addicted to heroin and opioids,reduce taxes on gasoline, restore salary cuts to county workers in active military duty, ban unauthorized use of GPS Tracking and more. In 2014, Jason was elected as Minority Leader of the Broome County Legislature. He has served on many legislative committees including the Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee, Public Works & Transportation Committee, Human Services, Planning and Economic Development, Education and Recreation, and Personnel. In addition he has served on the Broome County Landbank, Rural Broome Counts advisory board, and the Broome IDA. 

Jason and his family attend New Life Ministries in Endicott. His interests include long distance running, watching college basketball, and following his favorite baseball team the NY Mets.
